The Hollywood Theatre and the Museum of Stop Motion Animation present:

DIRECTOR: KAREL ZEMAN (1958)

This dazzling adventure follows a brilliant scientist and his apocalyptic invention, pursued by pirates willing to stop at nothing to claim it. Loosely inspired by the fiction of Jules Verne and the look of Victorian line engravings, director Karel Zeman immerses live-action performers in exquisitely animated environments, creating a richly detailed proto-steampunk fantasy.

Released internationally in the early 1960’s, Invention for Destruction became one of the most celebrated and successful Czechoslovakian films ever made.

The Museum of Stop Motion Animation and the Hollywood Theatre are thrilled to present a rare opportunity to experience this remarkable film on the big screen! Help MOSMA raise funding towards their mission to establish a permanent stop-motion museum in Portland. Join hosts founder/president of MOSMA Brian Capati and local filmmaker/director of photography Dan Ackerman as they celebrate this nearly 70 year old cinematic gem.

We hope to see you there!
